Founding of LyRA
At the heart of this vision is Professor Eliza Hawkes, a leading lymphoma clinician-researcher and the Lymphoma Lead of the Australian and New Zealand Lymphoma and Related Diseases Registry. With extensive experience in registry-based research and as a principal investigator on numerous international lymphoma trials, Eliza recognised both the immense value and the significant challenges of maintaining high-quality clinical registries.
As real-world evidence became increasingly vital in shaping clinical practice and policy, Eliza saw an opportunity—and a need—for global collaboration. She brought together like-minded colleagues from across the world to work on common barriers such as limited resources, data governance complexities, and the sustainability of registry infrastructure.
Naming of LyRA
The name LyRA—short for the Global Lymphoma Registry Alliance—was inspired by the Lyra constellation, a symbol of harmony and unity. Chosen by the founding steering committee, the constellation reflects our mission: to bring together diverse lymphoma registries from around the world and align them in purpose and practice.
Just as Lyra is visible across hemispheres—from the northern skies to Tasmania, Australia — it represents our global reach and inclusivity. The constellation’s mythological and astronomical significance as a symbol of harmony resonates with our goal to synchronise efforts, standardise data, and foster collaboration across borders.

Establishment of LyRA
This vision took shape during two pivotal gatherings at the American Society of Hematology (ASH) Annual Meetings in 2023 and 2024. Over 50 leading lymphoma clinician-researchers, representing their national and regional registries or research consortia, were brought together.
With the formation of a dedicated steering committee in 2023 and generous support from our founding sponsor, Lymphoma Coalition, a worldwide network of patient groups, LyRA was officially launched.
Lymphoma Coalition's passion and commitment have been instrumental in establishing LyRA and enabling our mission to advance registry science and international collaborative research using real-world data.
Together, we share progress, align on strategy, and shape the future of global lymphoma real-world research.
Our story
The establishment of LyRA since 2023

Large-scaled and worldwide collaborations will benefit lymphoma researchers in understanding many aspects, including:
-
The evolution of diagnosis;
-
Various rare subtypes;
-
Geographical and ethnic diversity in incidence;
-
Heterogeneity of treatment across jurisdictions;
-
The rapidly changing treatment landscape.
Our Research Collaboration
The Global Lymphoma Registry Alliance (LyRA) is a collaboration of lymphoma registries and consortia aimed at synergising knowledge and enhancing data interoperability. LyRA’s membership includes over 50 registries and consortia in 30 jurisdictions.
LyRA is proudly supported by the Lymphoma Coalition, a worldwide non-profit network of patient organisations promoting evidence-based practice in lymphoma care.
